Let me be another to 5 star this book. He explains the difference's between holistic medicine and western medicine of today. Yes, it is about your metabolism and how to regulate it, but it is also a reference book to keep close by. Dr. Hyman's advice it will change your life. Hyman has written not only an incredibly easy and sometimes quite funny book, but he has packed it full of extremely useful information as well. It is one of the most informational books I've read in a long time. He has a passion for teaching which comes out in this book.

He devotes an entire chapter to vitamin supplements, but not just "here, take these", he explains why and how much you should/shouldn't have, he explains which types to buy and why as well as what every multi-vitamin should have in it. He devotes pages of this book for organic website information like meats, fish, soy, dairy, etc. I guarantee that when you read this book and follow Dr. Easily change your life.

Not to mention the lack of dietary fiber, lack of high antioxidant foods on store shelves (Think, pasta, pizza, hamburgers).The down side is that eventually you may find it difficult to maintain the healthy lifestyle espoused in the book due to time constraints (I dropped off the diet and regained weight each time my wife had another baby because of the stress, sleep loss, and lack of time to shop and cook).THIS IS A GREAT BOOK. My cholesterol and triglycerides return to high normal with a high, healthy HDL (good cholesterol) as I have hereditary high cholesterol.THIS PLAN IS NOT EFFORTLESS:You will find out that eating his way takes a lot of effort because (1) you will have to cook just about everything from scratch, and (2) will have to carefully locate and select the foods you buy. There are even some store bought foods that are ok, though most prepared foods are designed to cost the least to produce, so you get added cheap sugars and fats which are really bad for you.

This book has two diet plans (an initial one, and an example of the follow up), many, many recipes for lunch, dinner, breakfast, desert, snacks and more, and gives you the entire method of changing your diet for life to maintain a healthy body weight. There are multiple chapters on the science and reasons. The diets absolutely CANNOT cause you any harm (unlike starvation calorie diets, or diets where you eat only certain foods and exclude potentially necessary nutrients) and goes so far as to caution you about the dangers of certain types of fish (contaminants, heavy metals) and pesticides (i.e. eat organic). Dr. I eat as much of his recipes as I want, making sure I don't get hungry between meals by eating snacks on his "good" list. I tried exercise with the diet, and the only difference was I lost the weight faster that time, but I still stopped losing weight when I got to my same ideal level (meaning no fat bulge in the tummy, leaner butt, not starving to stay there).

Every chapter has a "test" to help you evaluate your body and how your body, specifically, processes the nutrients you give it. A great book that helps you understand how your body uses the food you give it. It gives you a better understanding of what causes "fat cells" and how to eat - even the things you crave - and not have your body store it as "fat". Very easy to read and understand. This book used in connection with the website are valuable tools to enhance your quality of life.

Forget counting calories, going hungry, avoiding fats/carbs or whatever the newest culprit is according to the diet food industry. Anyone with a weight issues or lack of energy should read. Hyman recommended and found out I do have a thyroid condition and now on medication to correct.

The information helped me find the right doctor and the information needed to ask the right questions. After meeting with one doctor after another regarding my unexplained weight gain, lack of energy and generally not ever feeling well, I finally got some answers.

Even though I had many thyroid tests done over the years, they all indicated my thyroid was fine. Also following his book I have lost 30 pounds I have tried for years to lose.

I would also recommend Jilliam Micheals book, she writes alot of the same issues.
